John initially became involved with education in Los Angeles when he joined Teach For America in 2006 as a Resource Specialist Teacher at El Sereno M.S. During his three years at El Sereno, John is especially interested in how our intersectionalities play a role in our work as educators and how they impact the instructional choices teachers make. He is eager to build dialogue spaces with teachers and non-teachers to have necessary, and often avoided, conversations about identity, race, and class. John is currently working towards his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at UCLA. Silver Lake has been John’s home for the past decade, and he continues to love the diversity and eclectic nature of his neighborhood. When John isn’t in Los Angeles, you can find him poolside in Palm Springs.
